It has been a busy month for the Board of Directors and others. The BOD formed a committee to eval-
uate and develop a use plan for the Valley Center site. Vice- President Don Davis headed that com-
mittee and offered to anyone who had expertise in grading or wanting input for possible sites for run-
way(s) to be a part pf the committee. That said, the committee went to the site and physically walked
several sections of the property for fixed wing, sail planes, and helicopter locations. We identified
three sites for future use.........

Hello! We’ve had quite a bit of rain in January! Our access road has taken a beating ana over the years, developed ruts and drop offs that needed to be addressed. We we’re fortunate to find a local operator to run his bulldozer and smooth out our access roads. Unfortunately, his efforts removed much of the road bases and loose soil that will surely get slippery and muddy with the rains This has been a problem since we have been at this site. The BOD has developed a committee to look at solutions to make access to and from less challenging and without breaking the bank!

A million thanks to George Dawe for all his efforts in getting the club FRIA approved on the first go around. Our second FRIA approval for the Valley Center field should be coming by the first week in December. With our FRIA designations come our responsibility to stay in compliance with AMA and FAA requirements. Everyone please make sure you have your AMA number as well as your identification information on or in your aircraft. Also, your FAA number MUST be visible from the outside of your aircraft. I’m sure that you are going to need to renew your FAA number in the near future. Please check to make sure not to forget.
It's that time of year again to gather together all the treasures and other stuff you have been saving for our annual club auction. After our Club meeting on November 18, George Dawe will be banging his gavel as our Auctioneer.......

After almost one year of delays, long waits, unanswered texts
emails and phone calls, we finally have a signed land use agreement with the Valley Center partners to use the 436 acres for a new field. A million thanks to all who tirelessly worked to accomplish our goal. Special thanks to Bill Hill and Steve Gebler
who have been at this for years, putting in countless hours of time and effort…We commend you all. We are now shifting gears to get some grading and road improvements done so we can easily access the important flying areas on the property, Also many thanks to Jim Christy for planning the preliminary maps so we can have a large buffer zone from existing homes and horse ranches while keeping our grading needs to a minimum. Over the next few weeks we will begin this process and there is still much work to be done.

I’m sure most of you have heard by now that we will be able to
keep our field until the first part of 2024. This gives us a lot of
breathing room to make plans for moving to our new field sometime in 2024. We are waiting for the Valley Center partners to approve and sign a land use agreement to lock in our new site by July 1st.
In the mean time we will be working on some field maintenance, on going mowing and some ideas to improve the poor condition of our runway. A $5000 expenditure for re-coating the runway for only 9-12 months would not be smart so the idea is to use a power brush to remove the loose coating that keeps flaking off. The surface under the existing top coat doesn’t look too bad and is pretty much intact. It should serve us well until we have to move.

Our spring weather has finally arrived with warmer temperatures and longer days. Mowing and weeding are ongoing chores from all the rain we’ve had. Many thanks to Charles Lewis for coordinating the effort as well as running the tractor and brush hog. Also, Don White has been rumored to have traded in his heli for a four wheeled whacker to help keep the dark side manicured.
Thanks to all who have helped out. Remember to keep an eye out for snakes as they will be making their presence known very soon.
Last Tuesday, April 25, our Honorary Member Royce Williams flew to Washington D.C. to accept a tremendous honor. He was the guest of the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, and was awarded the Taegeuk Order of Military Merit during a luncheon celebrating the 70th anniversary of the U.S. and South Korean Alliance. This was the South Korean equivalent of the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor.

Field News…..
We finally had our meeting with Gary Romoff , one of the other owners of the Valley Center property. He seemed agreeable to us using the property but said he needs to get approval from the third partner to make it happen. As I write this column on Friday March 31, he has not yet been able to talk to the other partner to secure approval. Everyone keep your fingers crossed.
Tales from the Dark Side….
A strange thing has been happening lately. A few of our fixed wing pilots (me included) have been migrating over to the helicopter side to try our luck with a bird of a different feather. This
has been a very humbling endeavor as anyone crazy enough to try it will tell you.

Aren’t we all spoiled to the Southern California weather and complain when the rainy weather doesn’t allow us to fly all the time? Charles Lewis will be coordinating a mowing team to tackle the yearly chore of keeping the grass under control. If you are interested in helping out with the tractor mowing duties, please let us know. We need the help.

The bad news — some dirty rotten scoundrel stole our gate opening electronics and controls on Tuesday September 29. The crook took the most important controls for our beloved gate opener. Thanks to all of you for continuing to wear your masks and observing social distancing. It’s the best way to avoid the potential of contracting or transmitting COVID-19. Because of your adherence to these safe practices, the Board has increased the number of people on the fixed wing flight line from 3 to 4. Remember, it’s important to not only cover your mouth with your mask, but your nose, too. It’s OK to remove your mask when on the flight line to avoid having your glasses fog. Be sure to immediately replace your mask when returning to the pits.

Thanks to all of our members for doing a great job with the mask wearing and social distancing. It does make a difference! The recent surges in people contracting the virus and the associated death rate is alarming. Keep up the great work with wearing the masks and limiting the number of pilots at the field. Let’s protect ourselves and each other.
Snakes
Our very own snake wrangler, James “Diamondback” D’Eliseo reports that he has grabbed another monster snake near the east end of the runway using his special “chin tickling” technique (yup, you read it right). James relocated the monster, who had been lingering at the same location for some time, to a safe location quite a distance from the busy areas of the flight field.

Just a few words of caution — we have observed an uptick of rattlesnake sightings at the field and the weed growth is loaded with ticks. I hope that you, your friends, and family are doing well during this stressful time with all the news related to Corona Virus.
As you know, the field is still open, but it is critical, should you decide to fly, to insure that you keep a safe distance from each other, and hand wash and sanitize often. It is such a natural instinct to shake hands, hand each other transmitters, batteries, and other gear, but please refrain from doing so.
Many of the other flight clubs around the country and even here in San Diego have been forced to close. While we can, we will keep things open. All meetings, events, training, and contests are on hold for now. For the time being no visitors, guests or visiting AMA members from other clubs will be allowed at the field. Check the Transmitter, the website, and your emails for changes that may occur.

Thanks to the generosity of the Pappas family of Sacramento we have enjoyed our location for more than 20 years. If you would like to send them a note of your appreciation, you can drop them a note at pappas@pappasinvestments.com I think Patrick Pranica summed it up for me one Sunday morning when he said, “this is like therapy, man!” Therapy, religion, addiction, family, or whatever; aren’t we lucky!

October 19. See lots of photos of the day later in the Transmitter. Be sure to offer Jennifer and Richard congratulations! Did someone really say, “are you xxxxxxxx me” when the proposal banner flew by?
Richard also conducted our first Poker Fun Fly that day. Talk about cool, calm, and collected!
With all the warm weather and Santa Ana winds, please be extra careful at the field as it is a tinder box out there. Be sure that you know where the fire extinguishers are located and learn how to use them.

I regretfully would like to inform everyone of the passing of Ray Klotz this past month. Ray was an excellent

It’s time to think about upcoming elections for club officers and board members. If you have an interest
in supporting your club, be sure to let one of the existing board members or officers know of your
intentions. We would welcome suggestions and nominations of people that you believe could serve
the interest of our club.
The ever popular club auction is coming in November. Get ready to clear out your hangar of some of
those aircraft, parts, tools, etc. that could be donated to the club for the auction. Polish up the checkbook

Warm days and lots of activities still ahead as summer winds down. Thanks to the
Continued generosity of Pappas Investments, our newly mowed field looks great!
Safety
It’s important, that when you are on the flight line that you LOUDLY announce your
intentions. That means loudly and clearly calling out your intentions to “come out”, “take
off”, “landing”, “on final”, “low pass”, “touch and go” and so on. When there are a lot of
pilots on the line, or if there are nitro or gas planes in the air, it is frequently difficult to
hear your intentions from one side of the line to the other unless you shout them out! It’s
common courtesy to acknowledge that you heard the call out by shouting back, “got it”.

Congratulations to Keith Albert for winning this month’s Trifecta. Not only did he get to wear the esteemed “Chase the Skirts” tutu, but annihilated the completion throughout all phases of the competition to take top combat honors.
Maker’s Faire
Palomar Radio Control Flyers Hero Doug Abel planned and executed an excellent presentation for our club at the Maker’s Faire in Vista this month. Doug located all kinds of airplanes to build for families visiting the booth at the faire, had two flight simulators working and really did a great organizing the activities and securing volunteers to help out at the event. Happy Holidays and Season’s Greetings everyone! At this time of year, it’s only appropriate to reflect on the many gifts that we are given in our lives. I know that I am grateful for the many blessings that have been given to me in my life and certainly a big part of that is in the fine relationships that I have enjoyed and the wonderful facility that we have at Palomar Radio Control Flyers.
I’m often asked, “which part of the hobby do you enjoy best, building or flying”? Most people unfamiliar with our

An example of this is the fine instructor crew headed by Chuck “patience of a saint”

and they take me away from their families to give back to our hobby, but they
have to be adept at teaching a WIDE variety of potenal pilots the skills necessary to
fully enjoy the hobby in a safe manner. The crew teaches everyone from old (carefully

I want to stress again the importance that all members get involved in
the search for a new field. Ideally we’ll find a place where we can build
a field that is equal to or better than our current home, a new home where we can have a 600 foot
paved runway, a corresponding grass field, shade covers, and set up tables. I’d like enough
ground so we could still have camping and hold large events like we have in the past. Enough
room so we can still have a separate area for the Heli flying and create a new area for drone pilots.
How about a club house with a kitchen and maybe some RV spaces with hook ups and some
grassy areas for tent camping. OK, maybe I’m getting carried away, but it doesn’t hurt to dream
big!

What an incredible month, warm weather, winds, pollen, fun events, and great camaraderie. To start off the weather has been tremendous which has opened the door for some great flying as well as events. The club held it’s 2nd General Membership meeting at the field which included the first PRCF Summer Kick-Off Auction. We had some tremendous RC equipment, planes, helicopters, motors, engines, and of course awesome BBQ that was conducted by our own Galloping Gourmet Joe & Barbara Villarreal, Steve Kerrin, Ron Schuyler, and numerous others who stepped up to make this event so successful. In addition, this process was so much easier with a bidding/selling documentation process that Steve Kerrin and I had come with to make this process much easier. I would also like to thank Chuck Riley with giving me a hand going through so many auction items for this process, Great Job Chuck!! From this event we had made $887.00 which did not include the proceeds from the BBQ. I think this event is a keeper for future events and was certainly a lot of fun. The contributors were many, Mike Jensen, Roger Cosio, James D’Aliseo, Curt from “Wild Things Hobby’s”, GLS, Chuck & Charlie Riley, etc.. just so many people to thank.

Can you imagine, what would your ideal flying field be like? I remember an article in Model Aviation featuring a flying field in Washington State, in the center of the property the club had a nice clubhouse with an observation deck upstairs overlooking the whole field. They had a nice paved runway and there was nice manicured grass surrounding the clubhouse and the runway. The parking area included RV hookups and a tent camping area. The best part, the club owned the field! If we had no limits what would we do? We have a great field now, but how much better could it be? Don’t mind me, I’m just dreamin’ again.

The one thing that’s always impressed me about the Palomar RC Flyers is how the membership always steps up whenever there’s an opportunity to get youth involved in our sport of RC model flying. On May 12th the club hoisted CAP Squadron 714 from Escondido for a day of hands on RC training and a great time was had by all that attended. I want to thank all the club members who came out and helped to make this an exceptional event. I also want to thank Mike Morgan of DW Foamies for making a surprise visit and donating foam gliders for the cadets.

In light of recent events it occurs to me that prop strikes are perhaps the most common injury that we as modelers encounter. The result of a prop strike can easily be catastrophic and because it happens often enough to be of concern I feel the need to address the issue.
I’m talking from experience here and if you’d like I’ll show you the scar on my right hand palm that required a few stitches and a few weeks to heal. I was working on my plane at the field on a nice morning and looking forward to some great flying, inadvertently I hit the
throttle stick on my transmitter and in a split second the damage was done. With some new found respect for the damage a spinning prop can cause I made up some simple rules that I always follow.

COMBAT! Are you ready? March 11th will be the first of four combat meets this year. If you’ve
never attended a combat meet, I strongly recommend you go. This is a great way to earn “Palomar
Dollars”. My first Palomar dollars were earned by attending and judging in a combat meet. You don’t
need any experience; the combat crew will teach you and it’s not complicated. Combat is extremely
entertaining to watch and even more exciting if you’re judging for one of the pilots. As an added bonus, I’ll
be cooking hamburgers and hot dogs. So come on out, it will be a fun day.

Gentlemen:
I have been living at the Pala Mesa Fairway Villas three to four days a week for
some time now. This morning I had to leave early to come back to the coast due to
the fact of your planes were driving me crazy. I have 50% high frequency loss in
both ears and I can still hear your planes in the house, even in the
bathroom!!! Your planes come directly over the freeway (and trust me they do)
and at least 200 yards from the Pala Mesa Fairway Villas.

Dear Folks, Welcome to new board members, Bill Hill and Ron Edwards! I look forward to working with you. We thank Larry Hufford and Bob Peterson for their generous work on the board as they leave. Thank you for your vote of confidence by giving me another year to serve as your president. I will give it my all, and my main work will be to locate our permanent flying site. I hope that we will be at Johnson Field for the next year or two or more, but we want to prepare for our eventual move to a permanent flying site. When we finally move, wouldn’t it be great if I were able to rename this column, “Wings Over the Sod Farm” or “Wings Over the Plains”!

Flying Field As you know, plans are in the works to develop the property on which we fly. The entire area to be developed involves three owners. It is a question of time before we move to another site, but no one knows when that will be. The San Diego County Dept. of Planning and Land use suggested that we have perhaps 5 to 10 years. After attending the October Fallbrook Planning Meeting, Varley feels we have much less time than that. Thus, it is time we work to establish another flying site. There have been newspaper articles about the area’s development, and the monthly planning meetings in Fallbrook continue to discuss it. When we eventually move, we’d like our new site to be our last and permanent field.

It has been reported to me by our Curtis Kitteringham, that he, and Secretary David Truax, have finished the arrangements for the Christmas/Holliday Dinner. An announcement should appear in this issue letting you know how much the tickets will cost and when and where you can purchase them. This year as in the recent past, the dinner will be catered. The meal will feature Turkey and either Roast Beast or Ham with all the trimmings so buy your tickets!

Not to worry, everyone has a bad day…just ask that Triple Crown Favorite, “Big Brown”…although in that case I have my doubts that the horse did anything wrong! Was the fix in at the Belmont? One thing is for certain is that our guys did their best…sometimes things just go wrong! Certainly for team member Bill Hill it all went perfect as he now finds himself in overall 1st place! April 28, 2007 - Over the past 3 years I have been occasionally monitoring the frequencies (72mhz and 75mhz) at our Flying field and car track. The Palomar Club has a frequency scanner that can be programmed to scan just about any band of frequencies that is needed. Currently there are 3 frequency bands that have been set up to be easily scanned. The scanner runs on 12VDC, so I just plug it in to my field box to get it started.

Hello Everyone! Well , most of the year is gone and hopefully the heat will end soon. And we’re still in the black. The resealing of the runway will be done on sept. 19th and the field will re open on the 20th mid day. The chemical used on the car track has worked very well. We have purchased enough to last us about 18 months. The cost for both sealing the plane field and maintaining the track is around 5,000.00 but money well spent. It is the only big dollar items that were needed for this year. And that still keeps us in the black. :-)
