ABOUT US
Location
Johnson Field is located on about 85 acres on the Northeast corner of the intersection of I-15 and State Highway 76. We are about 16 miles North of Escondido on I-15. From I-15, take Highway 76 East towards Pala less than 1/2 mile and turn North on Pankey Rd. Enter the Palomar Flying site through the green gate. On weekdays, members must have a key to unlock the gate. The gate is open on weekends and holidays from about 8am to 1pm or when events are scheduled..
The Club Meetings:
Note: Club meetings are temporarily on hold during the existing pandemic.
We have business and social meetings once a month at the Joslyn Senior Center in San Marcos. These meetings are open to the public and start at 7:15pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month except in December. The Joslyn Senior Center is located at 101 Richmar Ave. in San Marcos – on the Southwest corner of Twin Oaks Valley Rd and Richmar Ave.
Club History
Our president, Joe Buko asked me to write the history of Johnson Field. He thought that doing so would help other members appreciate and take care of what we now have. I agreed to do so (must have been a weak moment), but after thinking about it, realized that our members would be better served if they knew some of the things that lead up to Johnson Field. Why not start at the beginning?
